- To all concerned this ongoing..ongoing..ongoing tread is starting to sound a
- little silly. It's all valid conference material, but can't we get the
- subject//header name changed? It seems to imply that there are a lot of
- dumb Europeans out there and they are buying the odd Amiga or two.
-
- Here's a North American's perspective:
-
- 1. Amigas are expensive, compared to IBM compatibles and dollar for dollar
- give poor screen resolutions/palettes compared to Amigas.
-
- 2. Our family owns eleven (yes 11!) Amigas, including 3 A4000/040's, maxed out
- on memory, an A3000T, again memory maxed out, several 2500's, a "custom" A2000
- "Tower" including an 040 accelerator, 24 bit graphics card, 2MB chip, flicker
- free video, syquests (2), a tape drive, high density Df0, lots of Hard drive
- capacity, 2 power supplies to run it all, etc.
-
- 3. We also own an IBM clone, maxed out, a laptop, etc.
-
- 4. We all prefer the Amigas, for logical O/S, sensible multi-tasking (Please
- cut the claims about ftp'ing, web-browsing, playing a game, etc all at once.
- It can't be done without lots of serial I/O errors, CPU and DMA interrupts,
- etc. Still, Amigas do multi-task when used sensibly and this in many cases
- gives them an edge over the IBM clone users who might want to do more than one
- thing at once.
-
- 5. Amiga software, by and large, is no more or less buggy than what is
- available for other platforms. Buggy software often equals buggy user, or
- users who wants lobster on a sardine budget.
-
- 6. NOW! Anyone dare to start asking why North Americans are dumb enough to buy
- Amigas? ;-)
-
